Bouncy and Dopey

12 weeks, 3 days

So much for being a regular blogger. It takes a bit more dedication than I thought. I do have a excuse though as I have been feeling a little crappy and moody and sicky and bloated and FAT.
Quite a lot has happened since my last post. Probably the biggest news was my 8 week scan. This is where we discovered that the one peanut is actually two!
I went to doc Karen for my 8 week scan. I was quite nervous at this point, because even though the first pregnancy test was positive, it had been 6 weeks since that result. With no symptoms yet and not feeling much different, there was a tiny worry that there wouldn't be a baby. So the scene was set...
I was lying in the darkened room with hubby behind me. Doc had the probe thing ready as we still had to do an internal exam. Probe is inserted while I hold my breath. A blurred image. Sudden focus as two distinct dark bubbles comes into view. Doc gets such a fright at this sight that she , non too gently, yanks out the probe and looks at Dave. "I saw that! It's two!". Karen confirms this. It is indeed twins. Back in with the probe for a closer look. A quick scrounge around to make sure there are no other surprises waiting. And 5 minutes later we have a photo of two little peanuts while Dave has already sms'd his entire contact list with the news.

The rest of the day is spent in a bit of a daze with my single overriding thought being : we need a double pram and two cots now!

So that was just over 4 weeks ago. Since then I have had some interesting bouts of sickyness. Incredible hunger. Boobs that are growing as if possessed with a life of their own. And a endless parade of people patting my tummy.

And now to the title of my blog today.

Monday we had the 12 weeks scan. This was a bit more serious as we now had to test for Down's syndrome. The babies are now quite clear. The top one (baby "A") is very active and turned into profile nicely for the measurement of the neck skin. The nickname is now "Bouncy" for this one, as he/she/it moves around and even jumps every now and then. Almost like a sneezy convulsion. "B" of "Sleepy" is another matter. He/she/it was quite content sleeping on his side facing us, and very uncooperative when requested to turn into profile for the neck measurement. After 10 minutes of prodding and jiggling, Sleepy finally rolled over for a brief second, and resumed his original position. I am using "he" as only a boy could be this lazy. Or maybe its the academic one with Bouncy being a budding sports star.

So thats the latest. Except for the fat that I have now increased a cup size for my bra, none of my work slacks fit anymore and buying a swimming costume is a helluva mission. I have bought my first two maternity slacks and a maternity bra. My tummy is definitely starting to swell a bit, but as least the sickyness is over.

They say the next three months are the best time, because after that moving around like the titanic puts a bit of a dampener and things.

Well lets see!
